The impact of tax reform is still being processed by policymakers, and New Yorkers in particular are expected to be hit hard as a result of the new $10,000 cap on the State and Local Taxes (SALT) deduction. In New York, it is estimated that 46% of homeowners pay over $10,000 in property taxes, and Sperry, located in the heart of Nassau County – home to some of the highest property taxes in the country - is the epicenter of where these changes will impact resident’s wallets. Some key changes have been made to:


Tax Brackets:  There are still seven distinct tax brackets, and the top taxable rate is now 37%.

Standard Deduction: The current deduction for married couples is $24,000. For head-of-households it is $18,000, and for individuals it is $12,000. 

State and Local Tax Deduction: Previously, homeowners could claim the entireity of their State and Local Tax Deduction (SALT). Now, the deduction is capped at $10,000. Experts estimate that 46% of New York's homeowners pay more than the capped limit. 

Tax Credits: Parents can now get a tax credit of $2,000 per-child.
