What is the Difference Between a Bank and Credit Union?
Credit unions are financial institutions that are comprised of member-owners. Each credit union is funded by shares purchased by its members, and the purchase of a share allows the member to become an owner with the right to vote. Unlike big banks, credit unions like Sperry don't answer to shareholders - allowing us credit unions to reward their members with higher returns on deposit products and lower rates on loans.
To make things even better - our friendly staff are all local Long Islanders, just like you! At Sperry, all deposits are federally insured up to $250,000 per individual depositer by the National Credit Union Administration, a U.S. Government agency.
Do I Qualify for Sperry Membership?
If you live, work, worship, attend school, volunteer, or conduct business in Nassau County, or if a member of your household or immediate family is an existing member of Sperry Associates FCU, then you are eligible to join Sperry.
Why does Sperry have a "field of membership"?
Credit union membership is limited to a group, or multiple groups, each defined in the each credit union's charter, and each of which have a common bond of occupation or association or are located within a well-defined neighborhood, community, or rural district. Sperry's field of membership is related to Nassau County.
How Do I Become a Sperry Member?

Can I Refer A Friend to Sperry?
Yes you can! In fact as a member, you can earn $50 for each successful referral you make to the credit union as long as they qualify for membership and meet the account usage requirements. For more information about our Refer-A-Friend program, call us at 1-800-676-5512!
Who is the NCUA?
The National Credit Union Administration, or NCUA, is the independent federal agency created by the United States Congress to regulate, charter, and supervise federal credit unions.
What does it mean that "savings are federally insured to at least $250,000 and backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government"?
Federally insured credit unions offer a safe place for you to save your money, with deposits insured up to at least $250,000 per individual depositor. The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) is the independent agency that administers the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). Like the FDIC's Deposit Insurance Fund, the NCUSIF is a federal insurance fund backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government.
Deposits at all federal credit unions and the vast majority of state-chartered credit unions are covered by NCUSIF protection. Not one penny of insured savings has ever been lost by a member of a federally insured credit union!

Why Do I Have to Deposit $5.00 Into a Savings Account to Join?
A deposit of $5.00 into your shiny new Sperry savings account allows you to gain membership with Sperry Associates FCU.
Your Sperry membership allows you access to lower rates and higher returns we proudly offer.
I Have Access to Sperry's Online Banking, But Can't Login with my Credentials. What's Going On?
To ensure the safety and security of your Sperry accounts, credentials on our online banking service reset after 6-months of inactivity. You can call us and we'd be happy to help get you back online!
Why Am I Unable to Make a Transfer From My Sperry Savings Account?
It's likely you've hit the Federal limit on allowed transfers per month, which is six (6). Under "Regulation D" as it's commonly called, no more than six such transactions per statement period may be made from an account by various "convenient" methods, which include checks, debit card payments, and automatic transactions such as automated clearing house transfers or electronic bill payment.
How Can I Access My Sperry Statements Prior to the Two (2) Year Period Online?
We encourage our members to save/print their Sperry statements every month. If you'd like to access your statements, you can come into our branch and request them. There is a fee per-statement.
How Can I Get My Sperry Member Number?
That's easy! You can request your member number on our site here.
What Makes An Account Go Dormant?
Simply put, a lack of use. In more detail, accounts go dormant when no activity occurs in your account for more than one year, at which time a dormancy fee will be incurred. Additionally, after three years, state law requires that the property in your account may be subject to transfer to the appropriate state authority ("escheatment"). If this occurs, you must contact the state to recover your escheated funds. For more information about this, be sure to check out our Member Agreements and Disclosures.
How is My Interest Compounded?
For all dividend-bearing accounts, dividends will be earned daily for each day on which your balance exceeds the minimum balance requirements (if there is any!) on your account. For all dividend-bearing accounts, the divident period is monthly, and dividends will be compounded and credited to your account monthly.
What Are Sperry's Hours of Operation?
On Monday through Thursday, we're open from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. On Fridays, we're open 9 AM to 6:30 PM.
On Saturday, we're open 9 AM to 1 PM, and are closed on Sunday. As a financial institution, we are closed on all federal holidays.

If I Am Travelling, How Can I Set Up A Travel Alert On My Sperry Debit Card?
Travel alerts tell us that you will be using your Sperry cards in places you don't typically use them. You can call us at 1-833-809-9986 | Transfer ext. 1532. to set up alerts on both your debit and credit cards.

Can I Deposit Checks On Your App?
Of course! Here's how.
- Open Sperry FCU’s Mobile Banking App on your Smartphone or Tablet
- Click on “Deposit Checks”
- Click on “To” and select which one of your Sperry FCU accounts you would like to deposit the funds into
- Then enter the sum of funds you are depositing into “Amount”. You can deposit multiple checks.
- On the back of the check, write "For Mobile Deposit at Sperry"
- Now take a picture of the front and then back of your endorsed check using your phone’s camera and it will be deposited directly into your selected account.
- The check is processed the same as the ol’ fashioned way - the first $200 becomes available the next business day, and the rest clears later on.
With mobile deposits, keep these points in mind:
- Members can deposit individual checks up to $2,000 on our mobile app.
- We can deposit a total of $5,000 through our mobile app per day.
- Members are allowed to deposit up to $30,000 per month through our mobile app.

Are Sperry's Credit Cards Compatible with Apple Pay?
Yup! All of Sperry's consumer credit cards are Apple Pay compatible. Apply Pay is easy and works with the Apple devices you use every day. You can make secure purchases in stores, in apps, and on the web. And you can send and receive money from friends and family right in Messages.
What is the Shared Branching and the Co-Op Network?
Sperry members have access to over 5,600 shared service centers and at nearly 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs across the country!
On Long Island, you can find a bunch of shared branches (as well as multiple within New York City) and each location allows members to have full access to their Sperry accounts.

With shared banking, credit union members have access to thousands of convenient locations across the country to perform basic transactions.
You can conduct a range of transactions anywhere you see the CU Service Center Logo, such as:
- Make deposits, withdrawals and transfers
- Use the ATMs surcharge free
- Obtain account histories
- Make loan payments
- Cash checks
- Buy travelers checks and money orders
To conduct transactions at a shared branch, members only need to bring their account number and a valid government-issued photo identification like a state-issued driver’s license or U.S. Passport.
